La Position Sarkozienne
While looking through some media clips on my subject, I happened upon a very nice clip in which President Sarkozy is posed questions about immigration (illegal immigration, to be specific) and in it there were some very nice sections in which Sarkozy reveals his stance on immigration and its effect on the Social State. The great part is that it is a fairly recent broadcast, June of this year. Take a look yourself!
The most relavant portions for my topic come at 3:20 and 5:30, in which Sarkozy defends his actions by citing the size of the State’s programs, but the whole piece is an excellent resource for anyone working on an immigration-related research project. On a side note, M. le President and I may not see eye-to-eye on most issues, but I have to give credit to the man for being such a collected and eloquent speaker, even under pressure. Enjoy the clip and good hunting!!

Cameron,
This is an excellent video clip that you’ve found! I’ve watched it and found it very informative. And I agree with you that M. Sarkozy demonstrates a great capacity for defending his position with passion as well as nuance!
On another note, I hope and trust that Our Town is doing well! I hope to attend next Saturday.
Hey Cameron,
Your blog looks awesome. One might have never known that all this time, you were simultaneously preparing for your starring role in “Our Town”. I agree with you that Sarkozy is a pretty good speaker, but at certain points in this clip I found his attitude rather condescending. Personally, I feel that if Royal had displayed more of Sarkozy’s sangfroid during their debates, the results of the election might have turned out differently. Oftentimes, I felt more amenable to her views on certain subjects, especially in regards to maintaining gender equality (which she made a point to discuss).

Cameron,
I also chose this clip for my audio/visual post and found it quite interesting as well. At about 2 minutes into the clip, Sarkozy begins to speak about the consequences of those who come into the country “sans papiers”. He stands strong on the issue and makes a clear argument for what he believes.
Good luck with your research!
